Marimba Quest is Alice Gomez,
Marilyn Rife, Michael and Linda
Richter, and Madalyn Blanchett, performing on
marimba, acoustic guitar, bass, and flute. The members of the group perform
in different combinations, depending on the type of performance - and on some
occasions, draw upon the excellent pool of musicians in San Antonio to
augment their sound.

Marimba Quest performs upbeat world music/jazz, reflecting influences ranging from
Brazil and the Dominican Republic to Mexico and the Andean region of
South America, as well as exciting contemporary sounds produced by combining
elements of ethnic and minimalist music.
The marimba is an instrument with a long history, reaching to Africa,
the Caribbean and Central/South America. Its keyboard is usually made
out of rosewood, which is referred to as the "musical wood" by marimba
makers because it is said to give out a musical sound when craftsmen
work with it after the trees have been cut down.
